Dear Parents,
It is time for students to be thinking about their next book project. The next project will be due on March 7, 2014. The story map is a little bit different this semester and the options for projects have changed.
Story Map-The story map will need to be completed as they read their book. Students will need to include the title, author, number of pages, copyright date, setting, and main characters. Students should also write a one-sentence summary for each chapter of their book. This sentence should include the BIG idea for the chapter.
The book needs to be at their reading level, needs to be fiction, and cannot be a graphic novel. If students have read one book from a book series they must choose a new series or a new author. Your teacher has given you a list of suggestions for a good read.
Book Projects:
Book Cover: Create a book cover that includes the title, author, and an original picture that would make another student want to pick up this book. On the inside cover include the title, author, and copyright date. You will also need to write a paragraph telling a little about yourself. This may include family, hobbies, and interests.
Letter to the Author: Write a letter to the author telling them why you liked the book. You may want to include some of your favorite parts. You may want to ask the author questions about the book, such as how did they come up with idea, how long did it take to write, will they write any more books. Some students have made a copy of this letter and actually sent it to the author. You might get a response!
If students have any questions or would like to see examples of projects please see your teacher.
